5 Signs Your House Might Need a New Roof

Do I Need a New Roof?

Many homeowners are wrong, thinking that if their roof is damaged, they will need to replace their old roof. While the leak indicates that there are problems with your roof, there are a few more signs that mean that you may need to put a new roof on your house.

A Damaged Roof Needing Repair or Replacement1. Age
How old is the existing roof on your house? Most of the roofing, as a rule, last from 20 to 25 years, before extensive roof repair or replacement is required.

How long the roof lasts also depends on whether the roof is repaired completely from the house and only one layer of the tile. If your roof is older than 20 years or if it is installed over another layer of shingles, you may need to replace your roof.

2. Buckling and Curling Shingles
If the roof of the shingles begins to twist or mounts, you may need a new roof.  To find the shingles that does this, look for areas on the roof that get direct sunlight most of the day.

3. The Valley
Snow and rain tend to pass through a certain area of your roof before you go down to the drainage system of your house. Over time, this can lead to the fact that the tiles in these important areas will disappear or break down. If you notice that your roof is leaking, it may need to be replaced.

4. Shingle granules
When your roof starts to grow, the roof tile will begin to deteriorate. When this happens, you will start looking for granules from your shingles in the gutters of your house. Although some granules here and there do not need to worry, a large number of these pellets accumulating in your gutters may indicate the need for a new roof.

5. The sun shines through the roof
Rise to your attic during the day and see if there is sunlight through the planks of your roof. Areas in which large amounts of sunlight enter may be a sign that your roof is compromised in certain places.

Knowing which type of damage to follow is one of the most important things that you can do to protect the integrity and lifespan of the roof of your home. If you are not sure if you need a roof replacement, contact Town & Country Roofing for the opinion of an expert.

Other signs that the old roof may need replacement

Condition of interior walls
The condition of the inner walls that touch the roof can give a lot of clues about what is happening on the roof. If you notice a significant loss of paint and strong moisture traces on the walls (and ceilings), serious leakage can occur on the roof. If you have secure access to your attic, climb and check for moisture.

Extreme weather conditions
Tornadoes and hurricanes can cause damage to the roof, which can not be repaired. Structural damage to the roof can not always be seen. A professional roofer (with experience repairing and replacing damaged weather roofs) can help determine if you need a new roof.

Faulty Design
Your roof is less than 15 years old and suffers from serious problems? Perhaps your roof was improperly installed or the materials used were faulty. Many roofs come with guarantees for the materials used, and some even cover work.  Refer to the roofing company that installed your roof.
